Playsetting

PlaySetting is a series of furniture that formed my MFA thesis at Cranbrook Academy of Art. Inspired by playground structures, these furniture pieces create unique interactions designed to engage our bodies and activate our minds.

SWING SEAt

I developed Swing Seat as an upright chair, which both rocks at its base and pivots at its leather saddle which is similar in shape to a playground swing. The resulting dual action of this mechanism creates a back and forth gliding sensation, like a swing in motion.

Roller Sofa

Inspired by the playground log roller, the Roller Sofa is composed of two upholstered cylinders. Both the seat and backrest spin as your body reclines, rotating along with your movements. When two individuals share the platform a conflict arises when the anticipated rotation is met with resistance as each adjust their postures.

Carousel

Carousel is a piece of furniture that captures the feeling of a comfortable chair but instead utilizes a standing position. It consists of a platform that tips and rotates on a central axis and a bar to hold on to for stabilization. The user can tilt the platform by shifting their weight between their feet and change posture by leaning into or away from the bar.
